Abstract

The article aims to analyse the actions and meanings of agroecology produced by rural socio-territorial movements in Argentina, particularly in two contrasting regions regarding the penetration of the capitalist development model: the Argentine Northwest (NOA) and the Pampas region. The methodology employed results from collaborative work between research teams from Brazil and Argentina. This approach includes the use of Google Alerts to collect news on the movements' actions, as well as the application of quantitative and qualitative techniques for information analysis. This study incorporates some reflections on the scope and limitations of this methodology in generating data concerning socio-territorial agrarian mobilisation in the Argentine context. The findings indicate that the actions of the socio-territorial rural movements related to agroecology and food sovereignty are strongly linked to the territorialities of subordinated social subjects in rural areas and the rural-urban interface, as well as to the specific forms agrarian conflicts take in the regions analysed. Nonetheless, underlying these actions are conceptions of agroecology as a tool to transform the corporate agro-food system and to challenge the civilisational order that sustains it.
