Abstract

This article aims to enhance the understanding of urban disputes over by examining the appropriation of urban territories through collective actions promoted by social organizations which form socio-spatial and socio- territorial movements. We are particularly interested in exploring urban conflicts related to the processes of territorialization, deterritorialization and reterritorialization currently occuring in Argentine cities. As a strategic approach, we utilise a methodology that involves systematic news surveying, integrated with content analysis and geographical information techniques, to begin mapping the geography of urban socio-spatial and socio-territorial movements based on the collective actions that are identified. Through an exploratory study of these recent socio- spatial and socio-territorial processes, we aim to contribute to the analysis of the types, modalities and objectives of collective action, as well as its spatialization and territorialization processes in various cities and urban territories across Argentina. It is important to clarify that this conceptual proposal is part of a broader and more collective research effort, developed under the auspices of DATALUTA and the CLACSO Working Group “Socio-territorial Movements in Critical and Comparative Perspective” (2023-2025), which studies the collective actions of socio- spatial and socio-territorial movements across different countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The results presented in this study contribute to a deeper understanding of urban conflict and the processes involved in the appropriation of the city, highlighting the organizational modes of the urban socio-spatial and socio-territorial movements engaged in collective actions in contemporary Argentina.
