The Teacher Training Program on Experimental Science Teaching intended to contribute to the improvement of experimental activities in primary science education through the development of teachers' scientific and pedagogical knowledge. This qualitative research – based on case studies – aimed to study the potentialities and limitations of this teacher-training program. We discuss the particular situation of two trainees who were involved in only one year of the program. The aim was to study the impact of just one year of training on the professional knowledge and classroom practices of these trainees. In both cases, there are positive impacts on teachers' scientific knowledge and conceptions regarding the importance of experimental science teaching. However, it was detected a limited pedagogical knowledge development, namely in what concerns the assessment of experimental science activities and its implementation with heterogeneous groups. The results show the relevance of the involvement of teachers in a second year of training.
