THE SOCIO-SPATIAL (RE)PRODUCTION LOGIC OF THE AGRIBUSINESS CITY OF SORRISO (STATE OF MATO GROSSO, BRAZIL)

The uneven production of the city reproduces the inherent contradictions in the process of capital’s (re)production, as the interests served are primarily those of the capital. In this context, it is observed that in cities, land becomes a commodity, leading to the intensification of its exchange value, promoting real estate speculation in accordance with the interests of those seeking to profit from this "product/commodity." The city of Sorriso, in the northern part of the state of Mato Grosso, develops according to these specified patterns, with the urban space clearly showing the segregation of social classes. Therefore, this text aims to present how the segregation process materializes in the landscape, based on a study conducted in the São Domingos and Jardim Aurora neighborhoods. With this intention, landscape observations and descriptions were made, as well as a questionnaire applied to the neighborhoods’ residents. The information gathered was systematized, analyzed, and interpreted, leading to the understanding that the city's production process directs the population with lower purchasing power to the outskirts, where land prices are lower, consequently resulting in spatial separation of the population according to their incomes.
