This article is the result of our post-doctoral studies on the theoretical and methodological production of Agrarian Geography concerning rural social movements, within the framework of Critical Geography. The objective of this article is to reflect on the dialectical method in understanding Agrarian Geography, considering the theories, methods, and concepts applied in the study of rural social movements. We adopt a qualitative approach of a historical, analytical-interpretative nature. To this end, we examine the studies of Professor Ariovaldo Umbelino de Oliveira, PhD, and Professor Bernardo Mançano Fernandes, PhD. They share a critical background influenced by Marxism, agrarian conflicts, and the struggle for land. While Oliveira develops an interpretation oriented by political economy, emphasizing land tenure structure and the reproduction of capital, Fernandes proposes an approach centered on social subjects and territory production. It is concluded that understanding rural social movements requires the articulation between structure, territory, and social action.
