Abstract

The article presents an argument against hegemonic conceptions which support a completely organic existence of learning disorders, such as ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), as well as drug treatments. Based upon studies from authors of Historical-Cultural Psychology about the periodization of development, the content analyzes how voluntary attention is built, demonstrating its dependence on mediating instruments and signs since birth. Finally, we highlight the necessity to understand the phenomenon of being unable to learn due to actual living conditions and the role of attention in the process of education.
