Abstract

Throughout history, indigenous people have maintained a cultural heritage that is immaterial to their communities and societies, as well as the legacy of knowledge, traditions, and productive practices associated with their native and creole seeds. These communities face a variety of issues that threaten their identity and wealth due to cultural erosion and biodiversity loss. In order to address this issue, a pilot process was implemented to reinforce territorial systems of innovation with differential approaches to consolidate, local and communitarian, in the valuation, preservation, production, and conservation of native and creole seeds in the territories of the community of Kamëntsá Biyá (Putumayo-Colombia). The actions were concentrated on establishing a Red de Guardianes de Semilla and supplying native and creole seeds for communal areas, locally referred to as Chagras. It promotes the conformation of a local Red de Guardianes of native and creole seeds and the recovery of corn seeds throughout rematriation. The integration of the visions and interests of the Amazonian Piedmont community with the trajectories of institutional intervention posed a challenge in the implementation of this initiative.
