Abstract

The biodiversity of Brazil stems from a historical process that characterizes the dynamics of interaction between traditional peoples and populations with nature itself. Traditional Agricultural Systems represent an expression of this sociocultural construction, being fundamental for food security and sovereignty, the conservation of agricultural biodiversity, mitigation of, and resilience to the effects of climate change, in addition to the protection of intangible cultural heritage. Therefore, the conservation of these systems should be promoted by the State, based on the socio-environmental rights enshrined in the Federal Constitution. In this context, the aim of this article is to problematize the main instruments of current national public policies directed towards this agenda, seeking to outline a baseline that can contribute to guiding future paths for governmental action in the coming years. Through bibliographic and documentary research, it can be stated that, although a public policy dedicated specifically to the theme, addressing in an integrated manner the elements that characterize these systems, has not been identified to date, important existing legal instruments, in the Brazilian case, may inspire future actions with this direction.
