Multitemporal analysis of land use and occupation in the municipality of Luís Eduardo Magalhães, western Bahia

Abstract

Brazil has been undergoing a significant transformation in its participation in global agribusiness, consolidating itself as one of the main exporting countries of food, animal feed and fiber. The use of remote sensing technologies such as satellite imagery along with Geographic Information Systems plays a crucial role in land use planning. This study aimed to evaluate changes in land use in the municipality of Luís Eduardo Magalhães/BA between 1985 and 2020, using data from the Annual Land Cover and Use Mapping Project (MapBiomas). The results showed an intensive expansion of agribusiness against the native Cerrado vegetation, with an increase of 45.9% and a decrease of 44.8% respectively. The analysis proved to be highly effective in evaluating the evolutionary dynamics of land use, showing a significant increase in agricultural areas, making monitoring studies necessary for the municipality to guarantee the sustainable use of local natural resources.

Jean Carlos Coelho Pacheco, Federal University of Viçosa/Agricultural and Environmental Engineer

Agricultural and Environmental Engineer graduated (2023) from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). He has a technical course in Environment from Escola Técnica de Viçosa (ETEV) in 2016. He currently works as an Irrigation Project Analyst at COPASUL - Cooperativa Agrícola Sul Mato-grossense, preparing grant projects, installation and operation licenses for irrigation, renewing irrigation licenses. irrigation, preparing pump house projects, checking and preparing executive projects for the assembly of pivots, carrying out bathymetry of existing earth dams, carrying out field surveys for irrigation projects, making, when necessary, adjustments to already installed irrigation projects , maintaining the organization of projects sold, preparing budgets for irrigation projects, preparing a technical report on the completion of environmental irrigation licenses, and working directly in the management of continuous process improvement. He defended the Course Completion Work with the theme Proposal for a methodology for selecting priority areas in payment programs for environmental services, approved on 12/15/2022. Graduated receiving honorable mention for best academic performance of graduates of the Agricultural and Environmental Engineering course in January 2023 granted by the Center for Agricultural Sciences at the Federal University of Viçosa. (01/2023 to 12/2023) worked as Trainee Agricultural Engineer at the Irrigation unit of COPASUL - Cooperativa Agrícola Sul Mato-grossense. (01/2023 to 12/2023) acted as a mentor and external technical consultant in the 2023 management of the Junior Agricultural and Environmental Engineering Company - Agrijúnior. (06/2022 to 12/2022) worked as an intern in the Environmental Management sector of the G5S Group, a consulting and environmental projects company. (01/2022 to 12/2022) served as Commercial Director of the Junior Agricultural and Environmental Engineering Company Agrijúnior. (09/2020 to 10/2022) was a scientific initiation scholarship holder (RENOVA/UFV 2020-2022), in the area of geoprocessing and soil management, under the guidance of Professor Márcio Rocha Francelino. (04/2018 to 04/2022) worked as a scholarship holder for the Tutorial Education Program in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering (PET.EAA) at UFV under the guidance of Professor Alisson Carraro Borges. (06/2018 to 08/2020) interned at the Department of Agricultural Engineering at UFV in the area of Water and Environmental Resources under the guidance of Professor Carlos Augusto Brasileiro de Alencar. (06/2016 to 08/2016) interned at the UFV Soil Department in the area of Soil Physics under the guidance of Professor Igor Rodrigues de Assis. He has experience in the areas of Geoprocessing, Remote Sensing, Water and Environmental Resources, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Irrigation and Drainage.
