This paper aims to reflect on reading, literary literacy and children’s literature, besides suggesting strategic reading practices for children and babies. Thus, the central question of this text is “how to promote reading practices in very early childhood?”. In order to look for answers, a bibliographic research was made. In addition, School Library National Program (PNBE) was comprehended. Last, strategic reading practices for very young children were suggested through two books adopted by PNBE/MEC: Sônia Junqueira’s Pedrinho, cadê você?, and André Neves’s Lino. This paper takes reflection concerning the possibilities to contribute to children’s building as readers, and also points theoretical basements which argues that reading must be taught, not only offered without intervention, mediation and dialogue.
