Abstract

The goal of this research was to analyse the impact of parental alcohol problems upon teenagers’conflict solving strategies. The sample was composed by 84 first and second grade students from a low social economic level public school, aged between 12 and 16 years old, divided in 2 groups: 42 children of alcoholic parents and 42 whose parents did not have this problem. The materials used were: the CAGE Familiar Questionnaire and open version of The Children’s Action Tendency Scale. The participants presented mainly submissive answers, followed by aggressive answers. No significant differences between children of alcoholic and non-alcoholic parents were found. However, the analysis of multiple correspondences showed a tendency to use more aggressive strategies among children of alcoholic parents and assertive answers to non-alcoholic parents.
