Abstract

Child labor is a phenomenon that has occurred in our society since the beginning and intensified after the Industrial Revolution, both in domestic and informal situations such as in agriculture. Given its social, economic and cultural character this study aims to draw some notes about child labor from the social representations shared by families and education professionals from two public schools in Presidente Prudente/SP. This issue is part of a larger research of qualitative approach adopted as data collection instruments the questionnaire and the interview, along with cameras. The outline presented in this study refers to data obtained through the questionnaires and as theoretical reference the Theory of Social Representations. According to participants, child labor is coated numerous definitions, sometimes positive sometimes negative, that influence the social imaginary and contribute to the construction of situations viewed as protective and useful to the development and/or damage to the gifted who exercises.
