Abstract

ABSTRACT

This article is part of a broad research on the hegemonization of the Brazilian rural space with soybean farming. The culture presents an agro-export bias, founded on a neoliberal model that oligopolizes the countryside. The production chain is based on transgenic biotechnology, pesticides and mechanization, highly speculative, of an exogenous nature. One of the consequences of the dominant model is the precariousness of work in the geographical spaces that it hegemonizes, in a specific analysis of the five main soy-growing municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul. Despite the promises of generating employment and income, the productive matrix of soybean farmers does not democratize the reproduction of the capital it generates for regional populations. Capital is generated but concentrated in domestic and foreign oligopolies; and it is not reproduced in salary remuneration and job creation, causing greater social vulnerability in soy-growing municipalities.

Keywords: Soybean farming; employability; precariousness; vulnerability.
