Abstract

ABSTRACT: Brazilian agriculture has always been centered on monoculture and production for the external market. This situation brought about great socio-environmental imbalances and was aggravated by the Green Revolution. The vision that the production model was unsustainable led to the appearance of public policies for family farming and, consequently, for organic production, starting in the 1990s, at federal and state levels: PAA, PNAE, Law 16.751/10. Given this, several public policies were implemented in Cascavel for the segment. Through structured questionnaires directed to family farmers, it was found that the city has the potential to increase its organic production. However, local public policies do not face the obstacles arising from the absolute predominance of agribusiness with wide use of agrochemicals. For these reasons, the advances are still insignificant.
