Abstract

This article presents a new and updated version of the map “Agrarian Brazil,” the first version of which was published in 2008 and is available in the Atlas of the Brazilian Agrarian Question (www.atlasbrasilagrario.com.br). The new version of the map “Agrarian Brazil” is the result of a synthesis of the mapping of themes we consider most important for understanding the Brazilian countryside from the perspective of the agrarian question. To develop the synoptic map, the main themes mapped were: land occupations, rural settlements, conflicts and violence in the countryside, various dimensions of agricultural production and the characteristics of agricultural holdings, deforestation, demography, and land structure. The period/date of the data varies from 2006 (penultimate Agricultural Census) to the year 2024. Taking this temporal set of data was necessary so that we could identify processes, structures, and the current situation of the topics addressed. The final result is a proposal, not intended to be the only or definitive one, since intentionalities are also present in the production of knowledge through cartography.
